Museumspoorlijn S.T.A.R (Stichting Stadskanaal Rail) has historic trains running on the old NS trajectory between Veendam and Musselkanaal. Running along the border of the provinces of Groningen and Drenthe, this 26-kilometre long railway line is the longest museum railway line in the Netherlands. One of the historic trains is the large T3 5933 steam engine, but S.T.A.R has 17 more diesel and steam locomotives and dozens of historic railway carriages. During the high season, the trains operate on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday; during the early and late season, there are limited rides and themed days.
