City walk

Take a guided walking tour through the city centre. This tour takes place on several Saturdays throughout the year and starts in the hall of the main railway station. Follow your guide through the city centre and view buildings and places of interest. These walks cost € 7,50 per person and take about two hours. Culinary walk
If you would like to know more about the city of Groningen and enjoy a delicious meal, sign up for a culinary walk. Seven restaurants are taking part in this; guides tell about the historic city centre on the way to each establishment. For more information, visit www.culinairwandelen.com. The walk is also available to groups and companies.

Architctural walk

If you think that architectural development in Groningen has stagnated since the construction of the Martini tower, you are misinformed. A number of striking buildings were realised after the tower was completed, particularly in recent decades, and provide an entirely different image of Groningen than what you might have expected. Examples include the new Gasunie main office, the houses built within the framework of the Blue Moon manifestation, and the Wall House.

Architectural walking routes are available at the Tourist Information Office, and take you by various architectonic tours de force in the city centre, such as the Groningen Museum, the Westerhavencomplex, the Waagstraatcomplex, and the public library building.

City walk arranged by the gilde (guild)

Each Thursday, there is a free city walk accompanied by a Het Gilde guide, starting at 2 pm under the Martini tower. The guide tells about everything you see on the way, such as façades, churches, almshouses, and streets. For more information, visit the Gilde website. www.gilde-nederland.nl

Canal walk

The mediaeval city of Groningen was once bordered by a canal. Currently, there are houses, old warehouses, offices, and works of art on both sides of the canal. Take a guided walk along the canal and hear the stories of the peculiarities you see underway. This walk takes you by the house where author Willem Frederik Hermans once lived, buildings designed by Rem Koolhaas, and a work of art by Erwin Olaf.
The canal walk takes place every first Sunday of the month and starts at 1.30 pm at the main entrance of the Groningen Museum, and ends around 4.30 pm. The walk is €8.- per person. Stadjerspas holders and students receive a discount. For more information and booking, visit www.grachtenwandeling.nl.
