Groningen has numerous special places to eat: have you ever had a Mediterranean meal in a genuine Bedouin tent? You can in Groningen!

Out for dinner

The Ellebogenbuurt district in the west of the city centre is a wonderful entertainment area and includes the best of restaurants. In Klapper, an extensive Indonesian festive meal is available for a reasonable price; for optimal culinary delight, visit Muller (with a Michelin star) just one hundred metres down the street.

Mediterranean atmospheres

A small alley between the Kattendiep and the Steentilstraat proves quite a culinary experience. Particularly in summer, when the outdoor café is open, it’s easy to imagine yourself in southern Europe in the Via Vecchia with a Spanish, Cuban, and Italian restaurant, providing something for everyone’s taste.

Roezemoes

Roezemoes is a pub serving food where anyone will feel right at home, whether student, businessman, or family person. Order stew with sausages or a Groningen rice table. There are live performances which vary from Dutch pop music to nineteen forties blues.

Bodega restaurant De Apedans

De Apedans has an unparalleled interior which includes centuries-old art and striking decorations, such as candle-grease ashtrays and a water organ in the lavatories. The restaurant provides evening meals, serving several fish and meat dishes, or lunches.

Ben'z Restaurant

Ben'z is a particular restaurant where customers sit in tents. Its kitchen is based on that of countries surrounding the Mediterranean Sea, and dishes vary from North-African tajines (stews), harrira (lentil soup), and Tunisian salads to couscous and Egyptian falafel.

&Zo

&Zo serves dishes from all corners of the world: various meat, fish, and vegetarian dishes, all according to the current season. There is an open kitchen into which customers can take a peek. On Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, a disco starts after 11 pm; music from the nineteen eighties and nineties, and the latest hits are played by “hot” DJs.

De Belg Waterloo

For a fast snack you can go to De Belg Waterloo for Flemish fries on the Vismarkt, opposite the Korenbeurs.
