Bicycle and boat
The city of Groningen is bike-friendly. Most major roads have separate bicycle paths. Cycling through the province is an experience in itself. With numerous lakes and canals, Groningen is a province abounding in water, and this is an entirely other way of getting to know Groningen.

Bridge timetable
A number of sailing courses include self-service bridges and locks that require a key. The “ANWB-wateralmanak, deel 2” (Dutch AA water almanac, part 2), available at the ANWB (Dutch AA) and bookshops provides information about opening times and where to obtain a key for bridges and locks.
Ferry services
There are two ferry services: from Lauwersoog to Schiermonnikoog, and from the Eemshaven to the German West Frisian island of Borkum. The ferry service to Schiermonnikoog is maintained by Wagenborg passagiersdiensten. The ferry service to Borkum is maintained by A.G. Ems.
