Parking in the city is no problem: there are no fewer than twelve underground car parks, and four car parks with transportation to the city centre in a City bus.

When visiting a specific place in the city centre, park your car in one of eleven underground car parks (amounting to a total of 3600 parking spaces) around the centre; follow the P route to park your car near your destination. Underground car parks in the P route include:

rates are about €1.50 per hour
* cars can be taken out 24 hours a day

There is a car park along the P route at the Damsterdiep. Rates are €1.- per hour (maximum parking time is 2 hours). The P+R area at the Sontweg allows for longer parking.

Parking meters are located along the canals, boulevards, and numerous other locations throughout the city centre, the hourly rate of which amounts to €1.60. , from 9 am until 10 pm; maximums of 30 min. - 1 hour apply.
Free parking in parking spaces from 10 pm until 9 am and on Sundays.

If you want to go into the city for a considerable amount of time, park your car on one of the four P+R areas located at the edge of the city and take the City bus to the very heart of the city! Parking and transport to the city and back for yourself as well as passengers (5 maximum) is only €3.- Parking is charged at the Zaanstraat P+R area, but the City bus is free. Kardinge: Number 3, 6, and 16 of Arriva Groningen daily between 7 am and 12 pm. Buses depart every 8 minutes, every 5 minutes during rush hour, and approximately every 25 minutes in the evening. Tickets are available from the driver.

Peizerweg: Saturday from 9 am until 6.30 pm, and from 12–6 pm during Sunday opening hours. Buses depart every 12 minutes. Tickets are available from the driver.

Sontweg: Monday through Friday from 8 am until 6.45 pm, on Thursday from 8 am until 9.10 pm, on Saturday from 9 am until 6.30 pm, and on Sunday opening hours from 12 am until 6 pm. Buses depart every 12 minutes, and every 10 minutes on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are available from the driver.

Zaanstraat (near the Emmaviaduct): Monday from 12.50–6.40 pm, Tuesday through Friday from 8.50 am until 6.40 pm, Thursday from 8.50 am until 9.20 pm, Saturday from 9 am until 6.35 pm, and Sunday opening hours from 12 am until 6 pm. Buses depart every 10 minutes. Tickets are available at the ticket machine. €2.- for the first four hours, €1.- extra for the fifth hour; €10.- for parking longer than five hours.
