The G7 is what defines Groningen, including its larger attractions, as well as less visible ones, they give province of Groningen it's distinct character.

In 1969 the Lauwesrszee was cut off, resulting in the Lauwersmeer. Nature has taken it's course in this area and made it what is is today: the Lauwersmeer National Park. Lauwersoog is also the departure point of the ferry to the isle of Schiermonnikoog.
