From Lauwersoog to the most eastern point of the province of Groningen, Nieuw Statenzijl, we can now enjoy the new bike path: Kiek over Diek. The cycling path is no less than 90 km long and runs straight through the Waddengebied, the large mudflats that UNESCO has named a World Heritage site.
The cycling path runs alternatingly in front of and behind the dike, combining two unique natural sites, the Lauwersmeer and the Dollard. Just biking over a dike offers a fantastic view, but here you get the mudflats on one side and the potato, grain and rapeseed fields on the other. Along the inner and outer dikes there is also a lot to see, like the historic sluice in Noordpolderzijl and the marches by the Westpolder.
