Rich in Groningen: Borgs and City Palaces, 1600–1800
The prominent Groningen families of the 17th and 18th centuries lived in urban palaces and borgs, or country houses. To show off their power, they commissioned innumerable works by artists, silversmiths, furniture makers, woodcutters and glass painters.
Though most of these have disappeared, preserved illustrations, architectural fragments and household goods bear witness to their opulence. This unique exhibition brings together some of Groningen’s most precious treasures.
